Overview of Pediatric Cardiology

At Bengal Child Heart Group, we are equipped with advanced technology and expertise to perform a variety of diagnostic and interventional procedures. These procedures are critical in accurately diagnosing and effectively treating pediatric heart conditions, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our young patients. Here is an overview of the key procedures we offer:

Balloon Angioplasty:

  • A minimally invasive procedure to widen narrowed blood vessels. A balloon catheter is inserted and inflated at the site of the narrowing to improve blood flow. This is often used to treat coarctation of the aorta and other vascular obstructions.

Balloon Valvuloplasty:

  • A procedure to treat valve stenosis (narrowing). A balloon is inflated inside the narrowed valve to improve its opening and function. This is commonly performed for pulmonary valve stenosis and aortic valve stenosis.

Device Closure of ASD, VSD, PDA:

  • Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) Closure: Inserting a device via catheterization to close the hole in the atrial septum.
  • Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) Closure: Using a device to close the hole in the ventricular septum.
  • Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) Closure: Closing the persistent opening between the aorta and pulmonary artery using a device. These minimally invasive procedures avoid the need for open-heart surgery and promote faster recovery.

Stenting (CoA, Ductal, RVOT, PA):

  • Coarctation of the Aorta (CoA) Stenting: Placing a stent to keep the narrowed segment of the aorta open.
  • Ductal Stenting: Keeping the ductus arteriosus open in cases where it is necessary for blood flow.
  • Right Ventricular Outflow Tract (RVOT) and Pulmonary Artery (PA) Stenting: Placing stents to maintain blood flow in critical heart pathways.

Ablation Therapy:

  • A catheter-based procedure to destroy abnormal heart tissue causing arrhythmias. This helps in normalizing heart rhythm and is effective in treating various types of arrhythmias.

Fetal Interventions:

  • In-utero procedures to treat certain congenital heart defects before birth. These may include balloon dilation of narrowed heart valves or vessels to improve fetal heart function and outcomes post-delivery.
